Fourth of July weekend kicked off with 180 cars filling the pits at Outagamie Speedway. Each of the drivers wanted to avoid fireworks on the track and enjoy them from victory lane after the races.
Points leader, Nick Anvelink, picked up his series leading third victory of the year in the WABAM Dirt Kings Late Model Touring Series. A full breakdown of their portion of the show can be found on their website: https://dirtkingstour.com/
The Professional Plating IMCA Modified feature kicked off with Jason Hyerdall leading the opening lap before succumbing to pressure from Dan Roedl when Roedl wrestled the lead away on lap three. Wyatt Block wasted no time in moving his 2JR machine into a position to challenge as he moved inside Hyerdall to secure second. Block wasn’t done there as he continued to work the bottom groove inside Roedl and fought side by side with the leader for multiple laps. Meanwhile, back in the pack, Mike Mullen steadily worked the high side into fourth place and set about running down the leaders. At the halfway mark Roedl led Block, Cody Schroeder, and Mike Mullen. A lap 12 restart saw Block slice past Roedl into the top spot and tried to open a gap on the field. The closing laps saw Mullen put on a clinic on running the highside in turns one and two as he tickled the wall up top with every lap. When the checkers flew Mullen closed the gap on Block but ran out of time to mount a challenge to pass for the lead. Roedl finished third and Schroeder completed the top four.
The Baileigh Industrial IMCA Stock Car feature kicked off with the front row of Jacob Ambrosious and Austin Jansen battling side by side all the way around the track in the opening laps. While that duo scrapped for the lead Chase Parker moved to third. Jansen found the advantage to clear Ambrosious and Parker worked by as well to take second. Nick Buckarma was able to dive to the inside of Ambrosious in turn two the following lap to snatch third spot. When caution slowed the action with seven laps complete Jansen led Parker, Buckarma, Josh Mroczkowski, and Brett Wenzel back to racing speeds. The top three immediately fell into a three car, side by side by side battle for first at the drop of the green. Buckarma ran low, Jansen the middle, and Parker sailed his 525 machine to the top groove. Parker emerged from the scrum with the top spot secured but Mroczkowski soon roared past into the lead. The top pair was joined by defending feature winner, Kenny Richards, and the trio staged another three wide dash to the top. When the dust settled Parker was back on top and held on for the win, Mroczkowski was second, Buckarma third, and Wenzel rounded out the top four.
The IMCA Northern Sport Mod A Main event saw Matthew Roehl lead the opening lap with Skyelin Krohlow tucking in behind the leader, Jake Carpenter put the hammer down and quickly moved from 7th past Krohlow into second. An early caution and restart gave Carpenter the chance to grab the top spot. With laps clicking off Carpenter set about opening a lead on the rest of the field. Jeff Schmuhl lived up to his nickname of “Superman” as he was flying high on the track in his 11S machine. Schmuhl used the grip and momentum on the top of the track to soar into second after rolling out of the line up chute 17th. He’d close the gap but each lap proved to be his kryptonite as there were not enough of them left for him to pressure Carpenter for the win. Roehl held on for a strong third place finish, and Jordan Jahnke brought his 484 ride home fourth.
Jared Spaulding took control of the opening lap of the Trailer Express LLC Unified Dirt Street Stock feature from his front row starting spot as TJ Everard, Ben Schulte, and Jacob Rens waged a three wide war for the second spot. While Spaulding tried to walk the dog away from the field Everard managed to grab second. Schulte and Rens were joined by Larry Richards and they staged a three car brawl for third. Everard moved past Spaulding on lap six and hoped to click off laps until the checkers flew. That hope was dashed when caution flew on lap nine and the field bunched up. On the ensuing restart Trey Van Straten was able to hug the inside line underneath Spaulding to second and held that line to nip inside of Everard as well. As the checkers waved Van Straten claimed his second feature in row, Everard finished second, points leader Beau Schroder nabbed third, and James Fletcher brought his 75 car home fourth.
The Midwest Equipment Dock And Lift Services (MEDALS) IMCA Sport Compact feature kicked off with Bailey Tate jumping past the front row of Kevin Powell and Tanner Pari to lead the opening lap. Matt Brehmer stalked through the field until he was running third on the track. The yellow flag waved with 11 laps to go and had Tate leading Kegan Van Ooyen, Brehmer, and Powell back to racing speeds. Brehmer slid past Van Ooyen into second and fell into a spirited, side by side fight with Tate for the top spot. The pair fought each other over the closing laps with Brehmer hugging the infield tires down low and Tate using the momentum of the high side to keep Brehmer at bay. After taking the white flag Brehmer got a great run through turns one and two and held the advantage down the backstretch. The box score showed Brehmer only leading one lap but it was the lap that counted most as he locked up the win. Tate settled for a hard fought second, Van Ooyen third, and Thomas Schulte piloted his 89 machine to a fourth place finish.
Outagamie Speedway by Klink Equipment, Elite Coatings Inc & Kunes RV is back in action next Friday, July 8th, with the Mid Summer Thunder. Racing kicks off at the Outagamie County Fairgrounds at 6:30.
